A companion ruleset for The Summit player events
A Closer Look
The entire point of the Summit is to have a very top down perspective of the goings on of the world. There is a great distance between the decisions the delegates make and the people those decisions affect. This is extremely necessary both in character and out of character but it can perhaps deprive your characters of the tangible results of their actions.
On the Ground is a companion ruleset for the Summit that will be used during any event that isn’t one of the full Summits. These may be run by the Summit crew, or they may be player events. These will open new avenues for player interaction with the world (e.g. minor rituals, combat and healing) as well as reinforcing certain limitations that the rest of the world has (e.g. limited leyline access and spottier divination). We hope that these rules will allow you to begin telling your own stories in this world.
Is it Canon?
Probably one of the biggest questions about any player event, regardless of system, is whether or not it is canon. The answer for us will be: Mostly. Basically, anything that happens at an On the Ground event that doesn’t contradict the setting or plot as put down by the Summit events and organisers is canon. Anything that does can be stories or what ifs or maybes. If you’re not sure whether it counts, you are free to contact us at thesummitlarp@outlook.com. This will also be the place to send information about any long term effects that happen to Delegates should they attend one of these events.
Furthermore, these events do not need to take place exactly between the last and next Summit. You cannot be after the next Summit but you are free to be before the previous one or even earlier than that.
The scope of these stories cannot be world changing. The Summits are what change the world and the past is locked in. Keep your goals and victories down to Earth. Tying them into successfully funded projects is a good way of adding depth and flavour to the world.
The World Outside of London
So far, all focus has been on London with the Summit and we would like to keep it that way for now. If you really wish to tell a story set outside of London, contact the organisers and we can discuss your ideas. (Note: events do not need to be physically in London, just set there).
If the Delegates choose to begin reconnecting with the rest of the country, the world will begin to expand and it will become much easier to set stories outside of London.
No player may set an event on Domus.
Calls
The On the Ground ruleset adds a number of calls that can be gained through items or rituals. They are:
- Deflect – Allows the player to ignore a hit
- Pierce – Allows a player’s hit to ignore armour
- Fix – Immediately fixes broken armour
- Heal – Immediately heals an injured or incapacitated character
- Explosive – Used to denote an explosive has gone off
