A scout’s report on the Thames Barrier, given willingly when requested.
Look, we all know that it’s still working. London isn’t horribly flooded, the underground is still usable and accessible. We just don’t know why or how or who’s doing it. It’s not like we’re the only ones who’ve wondered, we’ve seen scouts from all over come and investigate. Every time they do, the same thing happens, the same thing that happened to me and all of us. They turn around. As soon as you get within half a mile of the barrier, you just suddenly know something, something that makes you turn around and leave. You don’t remember what it was that made you leave but it doesn’t matter how many times you approach it, doesn’t matter from which angle, every time the same damn thing. Only thing we can all agree on is that it’s probably magic. There’s likely someone there looking after it who did a big spell to keep everyone else away. I mean, fair to them, it even seems to keep the AVs out, but it’s still bloody infuriating. Some higher ups are antsy but what exactly are they gonna do? Try and bomb the place? And flood everyone? Not likely. Whoever it is seems to be doing a good job. Just got to hope they have apprentices or that the spell keeping us all away ends if they die because if not we’re all fucked.
